The hotel first opened over a century ago, treating heads of state, business magnates, and celebrities. The original 1836 house, carefully restored, remains within the building. It is perched on a hilltop in a peaceful neighborhood, with a quarter mile of verandas and balconies connecting rooms to the 8595 Restaurant and Bar.
